Finding Your Purpose: Breaking The Chains Of Complacency

Of all the possible avenues of life there are to live for, complacency should be viewed as the switch that killed the will to build.

At Conscious Motivation, we believe that every human being was born with a special gift or purpose that they must bring into the world.

Though many of us talk about wanting to live our dreams, we often fail to invest the time required to make them a reality.

And, with such a competitive job market, some of us take the first job we are offered after finishing our education. Often, this first job does not align with our interests and passion.

The question is: Why do we give up on our dreams so quickly?

The answer is: Complacency.

We become comfortable in the security that comes from a weekly paycheck and all that it buys for us. Many of us also lack the confidence to enter into the unknown, potentially risking failure in pursuit of our dreams.

We must not underestimate the consequences of complacency. We suffer when we spend half of our waking hours focused on something that does not bring us fulfillment. The cascade of negative effects is as follows:

  • When we do not have passion for our work, we are unmotivated.
  • When we are unmotivated, our drive and work ethic are greatly diminished.
  • Without drive or work ethic, our self-confidence wanes.
  • When our self-confidence wanes, we lose the courage required to pursue a path of fulfillment.
  • By turning our backs on the path to fulfillment—and thereby ignoring our hearts—we experience regret and suffering.
  • When we suffer, others around us suffer and we bring negative energy into this world.

If we find ourselves in this type of situation, we must begin exploring our hearts to re-connect with our dreams and external opportunities to bring these dreams alive.

In part two of this series, we will examine methods through which we can do this.  And, I will share how I applied these methods in my journey from consulting with the world’s biggest banks to launching Conscious Motivation.

Remember: To live our life’s purpose is to live a life of purpose. We bring the greatest good into our world when we follow our dreams.
